The Response Network (TRN), owner and operator of Policecommunity.net, the leading provider of in-service online training and administrative tracking software solutions, today announced that the Essex County, Massachusetts Sheriff’s Office will utilize the portal to train its more than 500 corrections officers and personnel.
According to Sheriff Frank Cousins, Jr., “By extending our education and training efforts to include The Response Network’s Policecommunity.net in-service online training portal, our department will be much more consistent in our training curriculum while substantially reducing costs. It will allow us to balance current economic challenges, help satisfy the increasingly challenging and complex demands of the corrections profession and maintain the professionalism our agency.

For over 300 years the members of the Essex County Sheriff's Department have been serving the public-safety needs of the residents of the 34 cities and towns that comprise the region. The tradition began under the colonial-era leadership of George Corwin, William Gedney, Thomas Wainwright, Daniel Denison and Michael Farley, and continues today under the leadership of current Sheriff Frank G. Cousins, Jr.
Initially, offenders from the county were housed at two separate facilities in Salem and Lawrence. The first Salem Jail was constructed to serve citizens north of Boston and was operational in 1638. Many historians say it was the first detention facility of its kind built in the country. Some scholars believe victims of Salem's infamous Witch Trials were incarcerated at the jail.
According to Sheriff Cousins, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, which is one of the oldest continuing operating law enforcement agencies in the country, will be utilizing Policecommunity.net’s advanced, custom-designed courses in Use of Force, Legal Updates, Law Enforcement Information Network and Emergency Vehicle Operations, among others.
